National High School Rodeo Association Download the 2008 NHSRA Queen Contest Schedule by CLICKING HERE One queen from each of the NHSRA's 47 states and provinces will take part in the NHSRA National Queen Contest in Farmington, New Mexico in 2008. Contestants will be judged in the following categories: Modeling (25 points); Personality (25 points); Appearance (25 points); Two-Minute Speech (50 points); Impromptu Speech (25 points); Horsemanship (25 points for each of two rounds); and Personal Interview (50 points). The Contestants are graded on their performance by six judges. This year's speech topic is: The horsemanship patterns are remaining the same for the 2008 contest. They are outlined below. HORSEMANSHIP PATTERN #1 Enter the arena carrying a NHSRA flag (flag to be provided by NHSRA) and circle the arena once at a slow lope. Make a second circle around the arena with the flag at a faster, controlled pace. Stop at gate and hand flag to arena personnel. Make a third circle as a presentation ride, saluting the crowd. The use of a flag boot is optional and your choice. If you choose to use one, you must provide it yourself. HORSEMANSHIP PATTERN #2 Walk to position A. Begin figure 8 work to the right at a fast lope and make the larger figure 8. Reduce speed and go into smaller figure 8. Stop at position B. Trot to position C. Begin fast pace at position C, coming to a stop at position D. Turn away from fence at position D and proceed to the exit gate at a fast pace, doing a presentation ride. Stop at the gate and exit arena. |
