“ Utah Leads the Field at Half-Way Mark of 2006 NHSFR ”

The state of Utah is atop the field of 40 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia in team standings following the 1st Go-Round of the 2006 National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. Trailing Utah and its 2,410 points at the half-way point of the Finals are Colorado with 1,675 points, Louisiana with 1,620 points, Florida with 1,610 points, and Oklahoma with 1,390 points.

Meanwhile, Adan Banuelos of Jacksboro, Utah and Timothy Podskoc of Rockmart, Georgia are leading the standings in the All-Around Cowboy competition. Amanda King of Dayville, Oregon is atop the standings after the first go-round in the All-Around Cowgirl designation.

A total of 1,563 contestants are attending the 58th edition of the NHSFR. Events include Barrel Racing, Bareback Riding, Boys and Girls Cutting, Breakaway Roping, Bull Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Goat Tying, Pole Bending, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, and Team Roping. Competitors in the NHSFR qualified in each event by finishing in the top-four at their state/provincial finals rodeo.

Action for this year’s event continues throughout the week with two performances each day, at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM Central Standard Time. The second go-round will conclude following Saturday evening’s performance on July 29th, with the championship round slated for 1:00 on Sunday, July 30th. The Boys and Girls Cutting final go-round will kick-off at 8:00 AM on Sunday.
