Scholarships, Saddles, and Buckles Awarded at the
60th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo

Farmington, NM - The weather was hot, yet the action in the arena was hotter, as new champions were crowned at the 60th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) on Saturday, July 26 in Farmington, New Mexico. A total of 1,490 students from forty-one U.S. states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia competed in this year’s NHSFR. Performances were featured throughout the week of July 20th, with the top twenty athletes in each event qualifying for the championship round on July 26th. Event champions and All-Around winners include:

All-Around Cowboy: Cameron Hopper-Craig - Battle Mountain, NV
All-Around Cowgirl: Raley Mae Radomske - Ellensburg, WA
Bareback Riding: Jake Brown - Hillsboro, TX
Barrel Racing: Ceri McCaffery - Lake City, KS
Breakaway Roping: Cadee Tew - Belgrade, MT
Bull Riding: Riker Carter - Stone, ID
Tie-Down Roping: Reese Riemer - Stinnett, TX
Boys Cutting: Cody Hedlund - Acampo, CA
Girls Cutting: Raley Mae Radomske - Ellensburg, WA
Goat Tying: Bobbi Grann - Sheyenne, ND
Pole Bending: Darby Shope - Longville, LA
Saddle Bronc Riding: Spencer Wright - Milford, UT
Steer Wrestling: Riley Duvall - Checotah, OK
Team Roping: Cory Kidd - Charlotte, NC and
Adam Plyler - Pageland, SC

In addition, the state of Utah took top team honors at this year’s NHSFR, with Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, and Wyoming rounding out the top five. Utah’s Taci Shaffer was crowned the new 2008-2009 NHSRA Queen. This is the third year in a row that Utah has won the contest. The National High School Rodeo Association is one of the fastest growing youth organizations in the nation, with an annual membership of over 10,500 students from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia. The Association sanctions over 1,100 rodeos each year. The NHSRA is governed by a national board of directors, which consists of one member from each state or province.
